Our favorite runs are hard to define. There are the ones that are great for everyday, then there are the ones that are perfect for challenging your body to push through that next boundary. We have decided to organize them here by city region. We will have a short description of each route and what we like about them. If you are not familiar with gmap-pedometer.com it is a neat hack that uses gmaps to give you a way to map any run. Feel free to use it to track your own run and send us the link when you save it. Maybe it will make the list!
American Fork
10 Miler Out and Back: This flat course is an out and back from the American Fork store. It has a mixture of trail and pavement. It is perfect to hide water along the way so you can hit it on the way out and back.
Provo
4.3 Miler Near 9th East and 9th North: We love East Provo. For those of you looking for an everyday route from your front door this course goes down 9th East just down the street from Kiwanis Park, to the railroad tracks and then back up along University Avenue. You will need to look out for cars when you cross the roads but most of this route doesn’t have any heavy traffic. All cement means that you will have sure footing on this in-town run.
6.5 Miler Carterville: Carterville is one of the best running routes in Provo. It is a small road with little traffic. A downfall is that it doesn’t have a shoulder but running against traffic (like all smart runners do) makes it safe for most groups. This is a popular quick run for the BYU Track team and you can see them out there frequently.
10 Miler to Lake Back on Center: From the BYU Smith Fieldhouse there is this beautiful 10 miler course showcasing the Provo River Trail. Coming back you will come on center street, giving different scenery. At any time of year this route will give you time to appreciate the river, trees and leaves with a chance to stretch by the docks at the lake. Paved all the way.
5.5 Mile Hill Repeats: From the BYU Smith Fieldhouse another great course that will challenge your leg strength is this route. It is the best strength workout we know of. You will have a nice warmup to Kiwanis Park where you can stretch. From there you are only going up! To make the course longer, do repeats on steep hill sections as you work your way along the hill. You will finish by doing a hill repeat on the North side of the temple and have a nice descent for your cool down.
7.25 Mile Firebreak Trail: Get off the roads and onto the trail on this rolling hilly workout. Getting up to the trail is an uphill challenge but pure fun once you get there. Be careful on the trail, especially if there is any snow on the ground as it can get slick on the downhills. Fantastic views of the valley.
6.5 Mile Run the Y: The Mother of All Runs. Get your bravery out and try to do it without stopping. Starting at the fieldhouse you will run up and then down. You deserve a medal for completing this uphill workout. Half paved and half trail. Not recommended during snow season.
